Large Chunk Verdite - $100.00/pound Verdite Carving Rough Verdite is a member of the mica group that is often used for African carvings. Although it's a member of the mica group, it has no cleavage and therefore is a breeze to carve. Verdite can be easily worked with woodworking files and saws and takes a fantastic polish with tin oxide. The green coloring of verdite is unusual for carving material. Verdite rough is no longer being exported outside Africa and is now difficult to obtain. We may not be able to get more of this rough when our current supply is gone.

 Transvaal Jade Rough
While many call this
beautiful green material Transvaal Jade, technically it is a form of garnet.
More specifically it is a chromite and hydro-grossular garnet combination.
This provides the beautiful green patterns this stone exhibits. In the past
we’ve had different sized freeforms, but this is the first (and only) one we
have in the rough formation. It has an intense yet rich energy that works
not only the root chakra, but the heart too. They help one feel at home
within themselves with the ability to accept love and support from those
around them. They help you feel connected to your family as well as your
spiritual self. Work with this one for short periods of time to become
accustomed to its energy. This beautiful mineral is from Gauteng, South
Africa.

African Verdite Cabochons, email for current selections A new mine in Africa has unearthed some Emerald like material unlike anything discovered prior. It is basically the same chemical composition as Emerald with the exception of one Aluminum atom. The find is fairly recent and since this stone cuts and looks very similar to Imperial Jade, a large market is expected. The owners of the mine tried to get the laboratories to declare it as Emerald, but they have only approved the word Verdite at this point. Obviously if approved as Emerald, the per carat price would have been much much higher. |
